Review: Manteca, Shoreditch

1955

When we were invited to dine at Manteca’s new permanent home in Shoreditch, we knew we couldn’t say no.

The contemporary Italian restaurant, just a five-minute walk from Liverpool Street station, offers intricate flavours and an incredible atmosphere. The relaxed yet efficient vibe was so inviting and we immediately felt at ease.

Signature Salumi

Make sure you try the restaurant’s signature salumi, which is made in the on-site deli, to start. And, if you’re feeling peckish, order the delicious and artful pig’s skin ragu for a rich and delicious conversation starter.

The restaurant’s ethos is sharing, so whether you go for the steak or the hand-rolled pasta dishes, the plates are set in the centre of the table and you’re encouraged to tuck in. We went for the spaghetti with pine nuts and the crab tonnarelli, which were both wonderfully creamy but with fresh, citrus flavours. What’s more, they worked perfectly with a glass of natural prosecco.

We finished the meal with a gorgeous chocolate tart with olive oil drizzled all over. The oil created a sharp tang that married perfectly with the rich flavours of the chocolate.

Manteca is the perfect place to eat delicious contemporary cuisine in a traditional, friendly atmosphere. Can’t wait to visit again.
