Sweat it up at these new gyms in the City of London

The weather might be cooling down but the Square Mile’s fitness scene is heating up. From yoga amongst the treetops to HIIT classes with live DJ sets, here are four new City gyms to get your sweat on this autumn.

Frame Farringdon

The seventh site for this group fitness brand brings cult fitness classes like ‘Bend it Like Barbie’ and ‘Anti-Desk Yoga’ within ‘a 30-second shimmy’ from Farringdon station – fortuitous timing ahead of Crossrail’s arrival this December. Fans of the original Frame Shoreditch will find a bigger, shinier beast in Farringdon, with three massive studios for classes in cardio and strength, dance and yoga workouts and reformer pilates, as well as weekend workshops covering everything from careers in wellness right through to how to dance like Beyonce.

Gymbox Cannon Street

The gym class heroes have expanded with another Square Mile address, this time in the new Cannon Green development behind Cannon Street. The new site, which opened just last month is already running 110 different classes across its five studios – which includes one dedicated to aerial and holistic workouts and another designed for functional training with a colossal rig. Need a little extra motivation? There is also an army of Gymbox VPTs (Very Personal Trainers) and a live DJ every night of the week.

Founder Charlotte Cox tapped into the science of slow TV to eliminate distractions from yoga studios to enable students to find a deeper focus. She has also cut the yogi jargon and brought the practice back to basics with four different flow classes plus barre and low-impact strength and conditioning workouts designed to complement yoga practice.

Hybrid Fitness

Like a conditioning class but can’t quite let go of the bench press? Hybrid Fitness is a new training facility that combines intense boutique fitness and yoga classes with gym-based circuit training and group workouts. The strength and conditioning studio is home to 45-minute high intensity interval training sessions conducted on individual stations that have been kitted out with barbells, rowing machines and free weights, so there is no rest between sets. Over in the gym, members can workout at their own pace or sign on to a group fitness session like cardio boxing or Les Mills BodyPump.
