A man has been sentenced to 13 years in prison after he hit a teenager over the head with a wine bottle and fractured his skull.
Dennis Boateng, 32, of Eastbourne, East Sussex, was found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent and sentenced at Inner London Crown Court on 1 February.
He was also given a concurrent three-month sentence for common assault after he used two wine bottles to threaten another victim a day after his vicious attack.
The jury heard how on 27 July 2018, while the victim, 17, waited to cross the road on Aldgate High Street, Boateng approached him from behind and struck him on the back of the head with a wine bottle.
The victim staggered forward into the road while Boateng ran off. He suffered a fractured skull and required surgery to release the pressure from two blood clots.
A day later another victim, 21, recalled seeing a man pointing a wine bottle at him while he stood on an island in the middle of the carriageway of Lower Thames Street.
CCTV revealed this to be Boateng, who was then seen to cross the road and stand next to the victim.
The victim recalled that Boateng said: “You see that pavement, you see your head,” and then lifted his clothing to reveal two empty wine bottles concealed in his waistband.
Boateng then told the victim: “I’m going to walk off in this direction. If I feel anything, you know what’s going to happen,” before crossing the road and walking off.
Detective constable Alex Wilson, who led the investigation for the City of London Police, said: “Boateng is a dangerous individual, who has committed despicable acts of violence which will not be tolerated by the City of London Police.
“We are committed to helping people stay safe as they go about their daily lives within the City.
“Thanks to the hard work of our officers, Boateng won’t be endangering anyone else anytime soon.”
