November in the Square Mile? It must be showtime

Roll up, roll up! It’s time to introduce the newest Lord Mayor of the City of London, the man who will champion the great and good of the Square Mile both at home and overseas for the next 12 months.

Charles Bowman has some serious shoes to fill as he replaces Dr Andrew Parmley in the hot seat; the outgoing man shining on behalf of the City during the greatest period of unrest for a generation.

Mr Bowman is relishing the challenges posed by the job and has pledged to do all he can to enhance the City’s global status, but not before welcoming visitors for what is billed as the greatest unrehearsed show on earth.

“The Lord Mayor’s Show celebrates the historic and thriving City of London – the very centre of our strong and diverse Capital – which, in turn, supports a globally successful country,” said Mr Bowman.

“It is a joyous occasion, full of colour, fun and ceremony, and it is wonderful that so many people come along and enjoy the carnival atmosphere.

“It is entirely right that the show brings together so many diverse groups and communities from London and the UK, including hundreds of young people who love taking part.”

In honour of his ascension to the top post, a mouthwatering feast of a Lord Mayor’s Show has been drawn up, with organisers drawing on more than 800 years of panache and awe in their bid to leave London’s present generation wonderstruck.

We are unlikely the first and won’t be the last to do so, but the City Matters team would like to congratulate Mr Bowman and wish him an enjoyable spell in office.
