Adrenaline-seeking fundraisers have been given the opportunity to scale new heights and join the Lord Mayor in an abseiling challenge. Jeffrey Mountevans will take the plunge down the side of the clock tower of St Lawrence Jewry – his own church – on 14 October. And he is hoping to swiftly fill the 70 other climbing slots available throughout the day with those wanting to do their bit for the Lord Mayor’s Appeal. The aim is to raise at least £35,000. An appeal spokesman explained: “The abseil is open to everyone who is reasonably fit and healthy, you do not need previous abseiling experience.

“Your challenge will begin by climbing up the narrow spiral staircase to the top of the clock tower and then abseiling 94ft down the building. “A team of experts will be on hand to show you the ropes and ensure your safety so you can relax and just enjoy the experience.”

The action will take place from 9am-5pm, and abseilers can choose their preferred time slot when registering.

All participants who raise the minimum sponsorship target of £500 by 28 October will be entered into a draw to win a voucher for a Champagne breakfast for two at Darwin Brasserie on level 36 within Sky Garden.
