Dawn of a new era: early morning rehearsal takes place for first post-Coronation Lord Mayor’s Show

With only a few days until the Lord Mayor’s Show, preparations and rehearsals have been running to ensure a smooth execution on the day. The team behind the Show performed an ‘Early Morning Rehearsal’ that allowed the Lord Mayor Elect Michael Mainelli and the Show team to run through the motions and practise the timings with Pageantmaster Dominic Reid. The Lord Mayor’s State Coach was seen moving through dark, early morning City streets, pulled by six horses the coach has been part of the Show since 1757.

The soon to be 695th Lord Mayor Michael Mainelli has hailed Saturday’s first post-Coronation Lord Mayor’s Show as beginning a “new era” for the event. As the newly Lord Mayor, Michael Mainelli will be the elected head of the City Corporation and will have the duty of being an ambassador and international spokesperson for the City of London. The Lord Mayor will lead business delegations to international markets to show how the Square Mile is a leading financial centre.

The Northern, Central, and Elizabeth lines will remain open all day, as well as London Overground, DLR, and Thameslink services. Lord Mayor Elect Michael Mainelli said: “This Lord Mayor’s Show will be a celebration of the reign of His Majesty King Charles III, and the first to be held following his Coronation, ushering in a new era for this historic community spectacle.
