NHS England and Improvement said the decision had been made in recognition of a period of sustained improvement in the delivery of financial stability and planning.

It also highlighted the significant contribution and leadership of the Trust in the development of the East London Health & Care Partnership (ELHCP) and in working with the London Region and other system partners.

Alwen Williams, Group Chief Executive, said: “This wonderful news is down to the incredible efforts of all our staff, who continue to show amazing dedication and professionalism even during these challenging times.

“I want to thank all of them. We will continue to work together over the coming months and years in striving to improve services for patients.”

Financial special measures are put in place by NHS England and Improvement to help Trusts improve their financial performance. The Trust entered financial special measures in September 2016 and was removed from quality special measures in 2019.

Ian Peters, Chair of Barts Health said: “It is recognition of four years of concerted effort on planning and delivery, of grip and control, of cost efficiency, and of transformation.

“My great thanks to all of you and to the many teams across Barts Health and beyond who helped make this happen.”
