Detectives from the City of London Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to a serious sexual assault which took place in the City.

At approximately 3.30am on 7 December, City of London Police received a report of a serious sexual assault in St Michael’s Alley (EC3).

Detectives from the major investigation team are investigating and are keen to speak to anybody who was in the area at the time who may have witnessed anything suspicious, or anyone else who may have information which could assist officers.

The victim, a woman in her 30s, is being supported by specially trained officers.

Detective chief inspector Anna Rice said: “This was a nasty incident and I want to reassure City residents and those who come into the City to work and socialise, that a full investigation is underway. The victim is being supported by specially trained officers as we continue with our investigation.

“We are once again asking the public for their help – if anyone was in the area and saw anything please get in touch. Information that you provide could be significant to our investigation.”

Since the initial appeal, a 21-year-old man from east London has been arrested and released on conditional bail.
