My name is Mary, manager at Spitalfields: Johnny Flowers. I am here to share my story with you, and how it all happened. When i joined Johnny Flowers, I thought I was simply stepping into a job-learning roll on how to become a florist trainee. Little did I know, I was stepping into a vibrant welcoming family where every bouquet is crafted with love, where every customer interaction is a heartfelt welcoming experience.
At the heart of it all is our lovely boss, Johnny. He is not just the owner of this quaint and thriving flower shop; he is the soul of it. His vision, creativity, and genuine care for both flowers and the flower-loving people he serves inspires all of us working at our Spitalfields shop.
A Day in the Life
The first scene of our flower kiosk is like a painting. An array of cascading flowers and plants literally stops the passing foot traffic just to take in our displays.
Picture this: I walk into our shop, at the ungodly hour of a Saturday morning, ready and eager to start the day. Your greeted by the sweet aromatic scent of fresh blooms, this freshness in itself would perk anyone up. Johnny would be talking endlessly to our customers whiles I would be doing all the work! Lol (Can not wait for him to read this) lol. He is always at the kiosk in the early hours of the morning, normally humming away to a Nina Samone track, carefully examining our newest delivery of blooms. His attention to detail is unmatched. I have been on a unexpected crash course from Johnny in how to inspects every petal and leaf to ensure only the freshest, most beautiful flowers grace our displays. His teaching is simplified to “if you notice a bad flower then so can the customer” only the best. oh and my favourite “if i can do it, then so can you” Lol
Before I joined our family, we have three lads Joachim, Luke and Mal. They have also helped me grow as a florist, passing down what they have taught to me. From the very beginning working at our flower shop, Fathia our Admin Manager, insisted i was to be included in all future project meetings. You learn to swim fast, very fast, working here! Oh yes, another phrase of Johnny’s “There’s nothing that breaks we can’t fix”. The team gathers, Johnny takes the time to check in with everyone, asking about our lives, our families, and even how we’re feeling that day. It is these small gestures that make you feel valued and appreciated as an individual. Everyone says Johnny’s energy is infectious, making even the busiest days. Enjoyable.
A Creative Wonderland
Being a part of Johnny Flowers is not just about assembling bouquets-it’s about storytelling through flowers. Each arrangement we create reflects our customers’ emotions, whether it’s the joy of a wedding, the comfort of sympathy, or the excitement of a special celebration.. Johnny told me, customer remember us, because we engage on those everyday topics while making their bouquet. “Every flower has a purpose in the bouquet,” he often says. “It’s about creating harmony and telling a story.” Under his guidance, I’ve learned not only about becoming a florist, I’ve discovered the uniqueness this position holds for me. Being exposed to different characters and appreciating others perspectives is enabling me to understand people, and the world more. Remembering I’m Chinese and cultures are different.
Johnny is also a master at encouraging creativity. If you have an idea for a unique arrangement or installation, he is the first to say, “Go for it!” He trusts his team and encourages us to explore our artistic instincts, which makes every day feel like an opportunity to grow.
The Warmth of Teamwork
It’s not just Johnny who makes working here special, it is the entire team. My colleagues are some of the most talented, kind-hearted people I have ever met. We support each other, strangle each other, laugh together, and celebrate each other’s successes.
There is a camaraderie in this shop that is hard to put into words. When we are preparing for a big event or holiday rush, the atmosphere is electric. We stay late, share stories over coffee, beer and cheer each other on as we bring stunning floral visions to life. It does not feel like work; it feels like being part of something meaningful.
A Place of Love and Connection
What sets Johnny Flowers apart from other businesses is the genuine connection we have with our customers. Many of them are regulars, picking up on conversations where left off. They trust in us to be part of their most important moments.
I will never forget helping a man choose flowers for his wife with two lovely kids. He shared stories of his life with his wife, and together we designed a bouquet that reflected their journey. That evening Johnny text me telling me I had received my first five star goolgle review! it was at this point I knew I had arrived! Moments like these remind me why this job is so rewarding.
Johnny has created an environment where kindness and care are at the forefront. He treats every customer like a friend and encourages us to do the same. Whether it is a small bouquet for a just because moment or an elaborate arrangement for a grand celebration, each customer leaves with a smile-and that is what makes this place truly special me.

Our pop-ups are tailored to suit the unique needs and preferences of each corporate partner.
